In Bollywood, actors are mostly paid way much more than their female counterparts and this trend is there from the beginning of this industry. Also, this is not only about Bollywood but this also happens in Hollywood as well. In this industry, who was always biased about the paychecks, the first actress from 90's who demanded an equal paycheck was no other than the Hawa Hawai Girl of Bollywood Industry, Sri Devi. Sri Devi was the female actress who demanded a whopping amount of Rs. 1 Crore in the early 90's.
Sri Devi started her journey in this entertainment industry at a very young age of 4 years. The first ever film, she worked in was Munduru Mudichi which was a Tamil movie, released in 1976. She debuts in Bollywood with `Solwa Sawan`, which was her first ever Hindi Film. Till the age of 56, she worked in a lot of films and she worked in films of all languages as well. Not only this, she was also a proud recipient of National Award presented by the President of India.
During the peak time of Sri Devi's career, there was no other actress who was there to chase her or compete with her on any level. So, she was always in demand and directors use to usually fight to get her dates for their movies and the waiting list of hers was very long.
Today, this Bollywood diva is not with us, as she died mysteriously in Dubai a few months back. She was there in Dubai to attend a family function and as she went back to her hotel room, she was found dead after few hours.
She will always be living in our hearts and our memories and the young actors and actresses will be trying to follow her footsteps forever whenever it will come to perform on screen.
