Nothing, it seems, can stop Nandita Das. Despite the dismal show of Rakesh Mehra`sAks, the actress has been flooded with offers from virtually every director worth his salt in Mumbai, Kolkata and Bangalore.
And it`s not just offbeat roles that she`s been offered. She has been approached to play a variety of characters —the glamourous gangster`s moll in one film as well as a hot shot professional in pursuit of a personal ambitious goal in another. But true to form, she hasn`t signed on 20 films and is happier doing roles on her own "terms." that is it that the actress enjoys doing most fter pack-up? Well, the first thing that she does is to catch the next flight toDelhi, where she has a beautifully decorated apartment, to catch up on the various social commitments she has been involved with. Sadly, she hardly ever gets any time to pursue her hobbies and is inundated with phone calls to oblige friends and acquaintances. "I am not mincing words but I don`t ever get any free time to myself. It`s been a long time since I last read a book, relaxed, chatted with friends or just lazed about.
Every five minutes there is a request to attend a show, an awards function, a group discussion or be the Chief Guest at a school. At this rate, I truly feel I am better off shooting in Mumbai," complained the part Oriya part Gujarati actress, who is doing both Mrinal Sen`s and Rituparno Sengupta`s new projects in Bengali. Stardom comes with a price tag, Nandita!
