You are one of the most popular faces when it comes to fashion, tell us about that?
Cinema is my number one passion! Fashion is just something that I enjoy! I don't take it seriously at all. It's all about my mood. I wear whatever I feel like, whenever I feel like depending on what frame of mind I am in! So, I am a little crazy like that. Plus, I think for every artist, fashion is a way of expression! One can really make people understand his/her personality better just by his/her sense of fashion. It could be an icebreaker at least if nothing more! :)
From Engineering to acting, how did that happen?
See, we as Indians, we do things to please our parents/families all the time. I took up science in my school without having any inclination at all towards it because my mom felt that the brightest kids take up science as a stream in school. The automatic next step was to be an engineer, again, with zero inclination towards it. While I was doing my B.Tech, my love for acting and playing different lives in this one tiny life of mine happened. In spite of not having any film connections at all, my parents were fully supportive of that idea. I signed up with Kwan in Mumbai through my talent agency in Delhi and started doing advertisements on tv and there my journey began! And now, here I am talking to you! :)
You have been part of two of the biggest directors, Ashutosh Gowariker and Nikkhil Advani's television venture, how do you feel about that?
I feel very lucky and fortunate, to say the least! They are both filmmakers I have been the biggest admirer of! Ashutosh Gowariker's Lagaan was a film I saw in school and was bowled over with his way of storytelling. Nikkhil Advani's Kal Ho Na Ho was the film that made me fall in love with the idea of living life to the fullest and New York, obviously! Haha :)
With so much competition in the industry, do you feel the pressure of constantly being the best?
I don't think there is a lot of competition in the Indian film industry! There is a lot of prejudice. There are way too many star kids who suddenly want to be famous without knowing their craft. That is the problem! Competition is always healthy if it's fair. It's just a scam when it's unfair! But rare exceptions are always there. Irfan Khan is my number one example. The point is sooner or later, real talent gets recognized, it never goes waste! :)
We constantly see you experimenting with your look, what do you have to say about that?
Thank you if you like the experiments, I am hoping you do! :) It's just that I am not a single person in this body, I really am a few personalities deep inside. It just depends on which personality gets an upper hand on that particular day! Haha :)
So, what's next for you?
A web series that we shall talk about super soon but I am super excited about this one. It's on a lighter note and I have not done anything that's easy and plain fun on-screen before :)
What message would you like to give to your fans?
Please stay healthy, keep smiling wide and be nice to people. We need more people being nice to each other and celebrating each other's talents and contributions! And yes, don't do anything that you don't believe in if you stick to that rule, your head shall always be high! :)
