Talking about the first time he came Bombay, Anand Kumar says, "In 1994, when I had to go to Cambridge University, you must be knowing this entity named National Board for Higher Mathematics, which is a part of Government of India (HRD) that encourages Mathematics talent and research. At that time, its centre was IIT Bombay. It was the first time in my life then, that I got a chance to come to Bombay. I felt privileged as I got down to Vikroli station to come to IIT Bombay. I was the only Bihari student who got selected among the batch of 35 students for the training of a duration of one and a half month, for the programme"
