Released in 1995, 'Coolie No. 1' became an instant classic; its popularity still resonating among hardcore cinephiles. The remake is finally in production with Varun Dhawan taking the mantle from Govinda, who played Raju Coolie in the original with Sara Ali Khan portraying Karishma Kapoor's role Malti.

Farhad Samji, the writer who has penned the script, made this announcement by sharing a video on social media. The video is a brief one, with him announcing the arrival of the movie by wearing the iconic 'Coolie 786' badge on his arm.

David Dhawan returns to working with son Varun Dhawan after Judwa 2 and has faith in Varun's ability to pull off this iconic role. The father-son duo has confirmed the remake won't be a mindless replica of 1995 original and it is going to be an entirely different take.

Finally, in production, the film will hit the screens on May 1, 2020.
