When asked about what motivated him to take up a challenging film like this where he had to portray a very rustic character, whereas he is known for doing suave and more gentlemanly roles, he shared with us, `It has a lot to do with the fact that I hadn't done a role like this. When I got the narration, I thought it will be interesting to play a character in this world, which I have never done. Also, Indian cinema has never shown this subject - pakadwa vivah that happens in Bihar. So, it was a combination of having a good concept and for me, especially, that of playing a heartland character. Because I hadn't played such a character before, people started assuming I can't. This is my version of a desi Patna boy. I have grown up in Delhi where I have seen this leheza and this world.`
The film is based on the practice of 'Pakadua Shaadis' which started becoming noticeable towards the late 20th century, as dowry costs became prohibitive and organised gangs came forward to carry out the abductions.
It's certainly a subject which hasn't been explored before and the film has managed to create a hype where the audience is eagerly waiting to see Siddharth Malhotra in a never seen before avatar!
The film is shot at real locations in Uttar Pradesh to give the right flavour. Interestingly, both the writers of the film, Sanjeev K Jha and Prashant Singh belong to the same state so they took to fact and fictionalized the story, keeping it as real as possible. The film is full of vibrancy, with colorful frames, entertaining visuals and interesting characters, not to forget a plethora of party hoppers and love songs to satiate the palette of the audience.
The film also stars the varied powerhouses of talent such as Aparshakti Khurana, Sanjay Mishra, Neeraj Sood, Gopal Dutt, Javed Jaffrey, and Chandan Roy Sanyal. With a stellar cast, the movie is set to take over as a new love saga.
Produced by Shobha Kapoor, Ekta Kapoor, and Shailesh R Singh, Jabariya Jodi is a Balaji Telefilms and Karma Media & Entertainment production and releases on August 9, 2019.
