It`s not news any more. The celluloid romance of Hrithik and Amisha resurfaces in beautifully titled `Aap Mujhe Achce Lagne Lage` - AMALL. Since the release of Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai in 2000, cinegoers have waited to watch the lovey-dovey pairing of Hrithik-Amisha again. And the question on everyone`s lips is Can they recreate the magic of KNPH?
Ibrahim Ashq and Dev Kohli are the lyricists.Hrithik and Amisha gyrate well in jhatka-matka act in the Title song which is the best of the total seven numbers. Admittedly two of them look a more cosier couple than they were in KNPH. They look better, dance better and appear to be lovers deep in love. The music resembles a typical Rajesh Roshan number all the way with all the similar arrangements that made Khoon Bhari Maang, Kishen Kanhaiya and Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai so popular. This song by Alka Yagnik and Abhijeet is a HIT.If it comes to being "inspired" - and that too with style then "Rajesh Roshan sahab ka muqabla nahi". "Copy bhi ho jaaye aur pata bhi naa chale" - this is what`s happened in `Tum To Sagar Jaisi`. Hear this number carefully and one will find the undercurrent of `Do Lafzon Ki Hai` from the The Great Gambler. But all said and done, the number is a potential chartbuster and efforts of Alka Yagnik and (especially) Abhijeet do show !!! Abhijeet sings with heart and his cool vocals make the song special.
The song goes `We wish you a great life`!!! But the song isn`t anything near to being even average - let alone be Great. It is about a guy proposing a girl to get married to him and in the background all the friends and family are celebrating. Sad, but neither do we celebrate nor are we impressed!! Easily the most avoidable number of AMALL which is sung by Alka Yagnik, K.K. and a newcomer Jack.`Kuchh Hum Mein Aisi Baaten Hai` is a youth song by Sonu Nigam. It is a number about having confidence in yourself, getting the wayward on line and ruling the world. An average song with ordinary music, which is nothing great shakes. `O Re Gori` by Udit Narayan and Pamela Jain begins as an old fashioned number - the kind which one can identify with the songs from Dilip Kumar`s movies. The lyrics too are set in the black and white era. But the fun begins when the song suddenly changes tracks, shifts gears and the lyrics like `Tera Jhumka` start flowing. The mood shifts swiftly from 60`s to Y2K+2. The beats are impressive and one suddenly finds him rising to his feet and raring to hit the dance floor. The icing on the cake is the third track the number takes with `Hindaaru-Pindaaru` which seems to be designed specially for Hrithik to demonstrate his dancing skills. The song which starts as a 60`s style love song becomes a fulltime fun track in the end and the efforts of Rajesh Roshan which seem to be so natural are appreciable here.
The Theme Music is just a very brief instrumental of the title song. Nevertheless, it is good.`Meri Jaan` by Alka Yagnik and K.K. is more of a background music piece than a song. It is set as a track as in Hollywood`s music albums. The instrumental of the title number is visible throughout. Most part of the number is (again !!! ) `inspired` by the Hollywood style of background music. This music piece will make a more solid impact once it flows with the narrative of the movie. `Hawaon Ne Yeh Kaha` by Udit Narayan looks like a stage performance and it talks of being optimist enough to live for love rather than just dying for it. If an analogy was to be given then the song is somewhat in the lines of `Dil Ne Dil Ko Pukaara` from KNPH in terms of the arrangement for the orchestra. But the similarity just ends here.
In the start we mentioned a question. Can Hrithik and Amisha recreate the magic of KNPH? The music of AMALL fails to do so !! Let`s hope the star pairing succeeds in this !!!
