We caught up with the cute-faced actor who talks about his experiences and difficulties while shooting for the film.
Q: Tell us about ‘Ek Chalis Ki Last Local'.
A: ‘Ek Chalis Ki Last Local' is a comic thriller. The story is based on how a guy working in a call centre misses his last train at 1:40 am to a Mumbai suburb. With a mere Rs 70 in his pocket, he manages to make a fortune during the course of one night.
Q: The film is not made very lavishly and the title is also very appealing to the middle class. Is it targeted at them?
A: This film is an entertainer. It's not preaching, it's not serious in any way, its not proving a point or dealing with an issue. It's just an incident, it's just telling a story in the course of two and a half hours and it's made to entertain.
It's made for anybody; the upper class, middle class or lower class, it does not matter. It's made or you to sit in there have your popcorn and have a great time.
Q: Tell us something about your character in the film?
A: The name of my character is Nilesh and he works in a call centre. He is a common man; an average guy from Delhi and is working in Bombay since the past three-four years. He misses his last local and then certain incidents occur that night which change his life.
It is not a character driven script but a plot driven movie so it is less to do with the character back ground and more to do with the incidents.
Q: What if in real life too you miss your local train and are left alone with a beautiful girl? What would you do then?
A: Actually, I wouldn't do what Nilesh has done in the film. In the film we go and sit in a bar and many things happen after that. But in real life, I wouldn't go to a bar and wait, how boring!
Q: How was it working with Neha?
A: It was lovely working with Neha. Of course Neha is a big star and there is an image that has been put to her. I had never met her so I used to wonder how she would be.
She is a very easy going person and even she was excited about the project. Even she wanted that I do something different, exciting. She liked the story immediately and thus decided to do the film. She is very co-operative and professional with her work.
Q: What was the over all experience working for the film?
A: Over all it was a wonderful experience. One stressful thing was that the movie is the story of only one night. So I had to change my entire routine. Since we had to shoot at nights and also had a lot of outdoor schedules, so I became like a bat.
I used to sleep during the day and work at night. My character is somebody who works in a call centre and has a night life but I'm a day person so there was a lot of stress. My body cycle did not adjust easily.
Q: Abhay, have you ever traveled by a local train in your real life?
A: I have been asked this question several times. When I used to go to a consultant regarding my American education I used to take the locals everyday. I did it for about a year.
Q: When was the last time you travelled by a local train?
A: That was the last time I traveled by a local train and not after that, at least not in Bombay.
Q: Tell us about the music. How much do you like it?
A: The music is assorted. There are a lot of artists featuring in the album. My favorite song at present is a song called ‘Call'.
Q: You are seen doing Indi-pop style dance in the promotional video. How comfortable were you?
A: I wasn't comfortable at all. I'm not comfortable with dancing and if I had a choice I would not dance in any films at all but what to do, I have to draw audience and sell my films so I did it.
Q: What are your forthcoming films?
A: There is ‘Meridian'. Then there is ‘Manorama 68 Under', but essentially right now is ‘Ek Chalis Ki Last Local'. - (SAMPURN)
