The slump in the music industry just about seems to be receding. But the announcement in a trade magazine that T Series, one of the few music companies that has
managed to hold its head above water, has acquired the music rights of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Sawariya for a staggering Rs 12 crores has left the near-bankrupt music
industry in state of utter shock.
Bhooshan Kumar of T Series has another story to tell. "The information that we've paid that kind of money for the music rights of Sawariya is completely false and
misleading. That kind of money just doesn't exist in the music industry longer.
The outer limit for any film soundtrack, even for the biggest of banners is much less
today. This mischievous reporting was only done to create panic and make my other producers insecure and resentful.
In fact producers are calling me up to say
what kind of astronomical pricing strategy is this, and why are they getting so much less."
According to Bhooshan the editor of the trade magazine has put out this kind of mis-information only to be vengeful. "This gentleman had called me up warning me not to
buy the music rights of Suneel Darshan's Shaka Laka Boom Boom.
Arrey saab, koi zabardasti hai kya? How can the editor of a trade magazine tell me how to run
my business? I naturally didn't listen to him and went right ahead with Shaka Laka Boom Boom and T Series is very proud of it.
In retaliation this trade analyst
decided to spread panic in the music industry by announcing that I've paid an unreasonable price for the music of Sawariya. The truth is, no music company can afford to
pay up this kind of money today."
