Actor Naren Weiss, best known for his portrayal of antagonist Osama Bin Laden in Kamal Haasan's film Vishwaroopam, will make his debut as a lead in the feature film Kid Happy, to be directed by Kris Cheppaikode and Meghan Scibona. Speaking about the casting, writer-director Kris Cheppaikode said the following:

"Naren is every director's dream: he's magnetic to watch and a joy to work with. He has committed himself 100% to the role, emotionally, intellectually and physically. He adjusts quickly to new lines and new direction with nuance and grace. Every take is fresh and organic, but at the same time, if we need to retake due to a truck rumbling by or a passing person looking into the lens, Naren is able to repeat his motions and intonation exactly. He's in nearly every scene and has carried the film on his shoulders, over 44 shooting days in some of the toughest conditions imaginable."  

Kid Happy is a story of resilience and hope in the face of soul crushing hardship. It is the story of a foster kid, standing at the crossroads of race, class and gender as he attempts to escape his hard scrabble life and journey to India, to meet his long-lost revolutionary-turned-guru father. It charts the incredible distance an outsider will travel to become an insider, to move from loneliness to family, from rejection to acceptance. As the story of love's triumph over ignorance and hate, it is a story for our times; it is a story for us all.  

Karnataka film industry starlet Krishnaa is set to play the female lead, as first reported by Times of India.
