Bollywood actor Hema Malini says she has evolved "very little'' as a politician despite representing a Hindu
nationalist party in India's Parliament for several years, a news report said on Wednesday.
Malini, 58, was nominated to the Upper House of Parliament in 2003. She made the comments alongside
Lal Krishna Advani, the top leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party, at the launch of her biography earlier this
week, The Indian Express reported.
"I have evolved better as a woman, mother, wife and actor and very little as a politician,'' the daily quoted her
as saying.
Malini, who is also an accomplished classical dancer, is married to Bollywood actor Dharmendra and one of
their two daughters, Esha Deol, has followed them into the film industry.
The book, titled Hema Malini: The Authorized Biography, is more about the dancer and mother than the star
and politician, said author Bhawana Somaya, editor of film magazine "Screen.''
"About two years ago, when I met Hema Malini after a ballet performance, she expressed her desire to be
known as a dancer rather than as an actor,'' Somaya told the daily.
"She asked me if I would write a biography that would bring out the other passion in her life _ dance,'' she
said.
Malini, who has acted in more than 130 Hindi-language movies, was a major star in the 1970 and '80s when
she was christened "Dream Girl'' after she played the lead in a movie by the same name.
She has staged a comeback in the Hindi film industry by acting in two recent hits "Baghban,'' or "Guardian,''
and "Baabul,'' or "Father's Home,'' cast opposite movie legend Amitabh Bachchan.
