Director: Girish Jotwani
Rating: ***
Kota Factory fame Vaibhav aka Mayur Sore is back to the digital platform after a long time with Dice Media and Mx Player's new web series Girlfriend Chor. The series is directed by Girish Jotwani who makes his debut on the digital platform with the 5 episode ride.
It begins with Aakash (Mayor More) traveling with her crush Neha (Himani Sharma) on a train. Neha tells Aakash that she broke with her boyfriend, Aakash gets curious that now he has a chance but in another moment Neha says, some other guy Vishal proposed her and she said yes too, making Aakash upset again because he is now friend zoned again.
The series is teen comedy romance drama where a decent guy is tuned into a clever fox to get his love, he with his gang tries to convince her crush that the guy she is dating is not her type and in doing all these things he faces lots of issues. The series is full of comedy, few romantic sequences and a complete teen drama. We are sure if you are looking for some light teen drama then you might be in for an enjoyable ride here.
Director-writer of Girlfriend Chor - Girish Jotwani - said that the idea of the story came from the quote 'Love is like a bird, set it free'. He did justice with all characters by giving equal importance to all of them. The story is fresh as the father helps his son to get a girl's attention.
The screenplay keeps the audience's attention as the story keeps surprising us constantly. Although the story is a bit predictive but some of the elements are there which will make a youngster feel connected to the story.
We all saw Mayur More in the Kota Factory, but here see him in a completely new avatar. The actor is seen portraying a guy who always gets friend-zoned but is now willing to do anything to turn things in his favor and he does a pretty good job as Aakash.
Along with Mayur More, the series also stars Shishir Sharma, who does a fantastic job as the father of a friend-zoned son. Himani Sharma as Neha has also done a fabulous job as the girl who wants a boy's attention and can do anything for it. Kushagre Dua, Sonali Sachdev, Diksha Juneja, and Ashish Vidyarthi also did well as per their characters.
The story is dragged at some moments, as it goes up & down and the background music of the series is average as it doesn't connect well with the story as it is comedy-drama.
There have been a lot of shows created on one-sided love, and a lot of show plots created on guys being friend-zoned by the girl they love. But rarely have we seen such goody-two-shoes guys go and fight to steal the girl back. Do watch if you are or have been friend-zoned by someone, might help you!
