The show's director Gajendra Singh who's by now used to temperamental musicians and stars walking out of the sets, chased the visibly hyper-ventilating Juhi right up to her car.
She nearly slammed the door on poor Singh and drove off.
Turns out, it was all a carefully staged April Fool's Joke.
At least Juhi found it amusing. "The following evening Anu-ji and I made it clear that it was just a gag. Of course it was funny. We wanted to do it convincingly. Fortunately both Anu-ji and I are actors first, anchors afterwards. So we did put up a convincing act of being upset with each other."
But the heated debate over the generation gap was pretty convincing. Laughs Juhi, "Like I said we're convincing actors. And the whole thing was completely stage-managed. In fact right after I stormed out of the set, Anu-ji and I were sitting together and having nashta together.
So you've to give us credit for being good actors. We chose to make the joke look serious by talking about a serious issue—why today's generation seems so disconnected from our past heritage. We had to carry our shammed argument to a point where it would look convincing when I left the shoot."
Gajendar Singh is a past-master at managing truant guests on his antakshari. "That's what made the April Fool's joke so convincing. The very next day Anu-ji and I were holding hands singing April fool's banaya."
