The film Lootera is partly based on author O. Henry's 1907 short story 'The Last Leaf'. The film is set in the 1950s, against the backdrop of the Zamindari Abolition Act by the newly independent India, it is about a young conman posing as an archaeologist and the daughter of a Bengali zamindar. Lootera had an average opening at multiplexes and earned 5.1 crores on its opening day collection close to 30 crores in its lifetime run. Ranveer Singh and Sonakshi Sinha both received critical acclaim for their performances in the film.
