When he and Ram Gopal Varma spent close to a year discussing the possibility of doing a film together, Ramu mentioned in passing the dynamic discovery he had come across in the form of Vivek Oberoi.

A few months later, when Ramu signed Vivek for Company, industry watchers sat up and took notice of him as well. And as the word goes around that Vivek is the Next Big Thing in Mumbai films, Shah Rukh is said to have pressed the panic button. After all, he still has to recover from the Hrithik onslaught. "Doesn`t he look like Sharad Kapoor?" the Khan is supposed to have asked Ramu after the special trial show of Company. "He may, but he is brilliant," quipped one of Ramu`s assistants while the director diplomatically smiled and kept quiet.
