A: Change is inevitable. This was just to break the myth that I cannot do positive roles. I feel an actor is a waste if he is not doing different roles. One shouldn't stick to any image.
Q: Tell us about the new characters that you are playing?
A: In 'Mohalla Mohabbatwala', I play a glamorous role. This girl is very caring and positive and also forthcoming. In 'Ba Bahu aur Baby', my role is of a Punjabi girl with a Punjabi accent. She is just like Basanti who doesn't stop once she starts talking. I liked both these roles immediately.
Q: Do you relate with any of these characters in real life?
A: I have not related to any of my roles which I have played till date. I don't know how to describe myself but when I was in school I talked too much but after entering television I don't know how and when I changed.
Q: What went wrong with the show Arranged Marriage which was supposed to air on star plus?
A: I really don't have any clue. Its better you should ask people from Star Plus. I had put my heart and soul while working on this show for ten months and was paid for it. After that I was told that the channel has put it on hold. I guess you can also ask UTV regarding this. It was a very interesting comedy show.
Q: Are you very choosy when it comes to working in television? You also left 'Johnny Aala Re' mid way.
A: No! Who told you? I just said that I am no more interested in negative roles now. And I would like to tell you that I have never done cameos, have done only short stories. And as for 'Johnny Aala Re', I had a very bad experience with them. I left because I wasn't happy with the production house. They didn't pay my hairdresser and on one occasion a production boy was very rude to me.
Q: How is your career in Bollywood happening?
A: (Laughs) I don't have one so what would I tell you? Frankly speaking, I don't have a mentor, nor am I any Miss India, so unless I get a big break or what you can call a first push, there is not much to talk about.
Q: It seems you are more interested in films rather than televison?
A: I am just interested in good roles. And also this doesn't mean that films will be my first preference and I will sideline television once I start getting roles in Bollywood. If I have committed to any TV producer and given my dates for any show I am going to stick to my commitment, come whatever may.
Q: When is your foreign film 'The Memsahib' releasing?
A: We are expecting it sometime this year. I think the producer will have the accurate information about this.
Q: You have mostly done offbeat roles. Are you looking at doing mainstream cinema?
A: Once again I would say that I am just looking for good roles. I have thirst for good and meaningful roles. I would never do anything which is monotonous be, it offbeat or mainstream.
Q: Somewhere I read you hate the attitude of people in Bollywood....
A: Oh, it's totally false. The journo must have misquoted me. I had just said that Bollywood producers get a little tough when it comes considering TV actors for their films. Tell me one thing, why can't it be like Hollywood where Jennifer Aniston can easily dabble with both TV and films? We are actors and should be free to play around with all mediums.
Q: You recently got engaged. Is marriage on the cards?
A: Do you want me to remain single all my life. Actually we haven't planned any thing yet. I am expecting the date sometime in next year. - Amit N.
