Aamir Khan has said that he is disappointed at not getting Oscar for his hugely successful film Lagaan in the foreign category but added it lost out "probably due to the topicality of the winner- Bosnia`s No Man`s Land- which speaks of futility of war.
"No Man`s Land is based on such a topic which is very sensitive in the present context. It`s about war between two communities and two countries. This factor may have weighed on the minds of the judges which also should be taken into account," Aamir told the private news channel Aaj Tak.Meanwhile Information and Broadcasting Minister Sushma Swaraj on Monday expressed disappointment over Lagaan not winning the Oscars but said its nomination itself was an important event in the history of Indian cinema.
"We could not achieve victory but we were very close to the goal and it is a remarkable achievement in itself," she said. She congratulated Aamir Khan for his stupendous success for bringing India on the road map of international cinema and extended her best wishes to the filmmakers and directors so that they repeat the same feat in future.
