Director Apoorva Lakhia had invited Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan to release the audio album of Shootout At Lokhandwala and they had verbally committed to him that they would attend the music launch.
Instead they did not show up, they called up to inform that they wouldn't be attending, citing time constraints due to the wedding preparations as an excuse.
That's when Sanjay Gupta called on Jeetendra and Rakesh Roshan, who were also present, to do the honours and rescue them in place of the missing Bachchans.
Incidentally, the Bachchans had asked for the programme schedule, which stated who would be speaking on stage, at what time. Perhaps they thought Vivek might say something to attract media attention and decided it would be best to avoid the event altogether.
The Oberoi family has not been invited to the wedding for obvious reasons.
The Bachchan disapproval of Vivek became all the more apparent on Karan Johar's show last Sunday. When he asked Jaya Bachchan to name a 'man on a mission', she promptly answered, "Vivek Oberoi."
