The frantic hype over the marriage of Bollywood's most sought after stars Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai had its own share of controversies, as the pair got married in a traditional Hindu ceremony today evening in Mumbai.

The police arrested a woman today after she slit her wrists claiming that Abhishek dumped her and that the Bollywood star had gone back on his promise of marrying her.

She also cliamed that she had a physical relation with Abhishek.

Jahnvi, who had reached the residence of the actor late on Thursday night, split her wrists with a blade before few journalists.

"I took this step to ask Abhishek Bachchan is what had been happening for the last three or four months... was it serious or non-serious. When I found out it had become this serious, I decided to take this step," said Jahnvi, her left wrist heavily bandaged.

"She will be booked under Section 309- attempt to suicide. Allegations are only allegations... but the police needs evidence to take further action," said Pradeep Shinde, senior police inspector at Mumbai's Juhu police station, after arresting her.

Meanwhile, Jahnvi's mother, who lives with her family in Srinagar, said that her daughter was telling the truth.

"I am requesting you... my daughter is telling the truth. Abhishek Bachchan has ditched her and she had told me about this several months ago... No it was not in my knowledge. When she indirectly told me I tried to make her understand. We are Muslims and it is a sin if someone marries in this fashion. It is un-Islamic," said Dr. Shaheena Nasir, Jahnvi's mother.

The police refused to register a complaint against Bachchan, saying the model had no proof of the relationship and could be playing out a publicity stunt.

Later in the day, the police roughed up fans of Abhishek and Aishwarya, who had gathered to get a glimpse of their wedding.

Scores of fans of Bachchans turned up outside their house 'Prateeksha', to get a glimpse of the stars, but were roughed up by security personnel.

"We had come here to wish the Bachchan family and Aishwarya Rai. We were asked to leave our jobs with Sahara star without any prior notice. We are facing a lot of problem feeding our family since the last month. Even then we came here to wish the family and be a part of their happiness. But the guards pushed us away from the place. We had only come to wish them," said a fan of Bachchans.

Bachchan, 31, married former Miss World Rai, 33; a union that many say will create Bollywood's ultimate power couple.

Rai and Bachchan, who got engaged in January, are guarding their privacy as fiercely as they guarded their short romance.
