The trailer for Netflix's upcoming drama The Queen's Gambit let's star Anya Taylor-Joy show off her dramatic range as a troubled young chess prodigy. As was revealed in the first teaser, the stylish limited series is set to debut on Netflix on October 23rd. It was adapted by veteran screenwriter Scott Frank from a 1983 novel of the same name written by Walter Tevis. Frank's previous Netflix series, Godless, was hailed for its sharp writing and unique Western premise.

The Queen's Gambit, which is a reference to an opening move in chess (not the yacht in Arrow), details the story of Beth Harmon, a chess prodigy who must fight her addictions, as well as concerns that she's inherited her mother's mental illness, while battling for recognition in the male-dominated world of competitive chess. Taylor-Joy tackles the role of Beth, while Harry Melling, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, and Bill Camp round out the show's cast. It is set to run for seven episodes.

The trailer continues teasing the sharp contrast between its main character's personal battles with addiction and childhood trauma, and her public success as a chess player. The footage highlights what looks to be another impressive performance from Taylor-Joy, while Melling seems primed to be one of the show's stand-out supporting players, proving once again that he's come a long way since playing Dudley Dursley in the Harry Potter films.
