A film director who specialised in highly stylised music videos, Anubhav Sinha debuted with a full length feature film (some said full
length music video), Tum Bin.
This introduced his rumoured off screen partner, Sandali Sinha, and introduced Priyanshu
Chatterjee. Anubhav Sinha went on to make Dus and Tathastu, two films quite different from the picture perfect love story melodrama,
'Tum Bin'.
Anubhav is now planning to make a thriller that will expose the plot behind 1991 assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
Notwithstanding the fact that the Gandhis and Bachchans are at the moment at loggerheads, especially politically, the film becomes
even more exciting as it will feature Abhishek Bachchan (or Sanjay Dutt, who again is in the inner circle of the Bachchans and was
one of the select film industry invitees to the Abhishek-Aishwarya wedding last month) in the lead.
Sinha with a small team has reportedly been researching the assassination for months and claims to have come across some
startling and so far unknown facts. It may be recalled that Rajiv Gandhi was blown apart by an LTTE suicide bomber at Sriperumbudur
near Chennai.
Mani Ratnam's Dil Se took off from that incident and Manisha Koirala played a suicide bomber with whom
Shah Rukh Khan falls in love.
Sinha calls his film a "celluloid investigation of Rajiv Gandhi's assassination, tackling questions that were never asked, let alone
answered." Quite a call, that! If Anubhav Sinha is as good as his word, this could be a make-or-break film not only for Sinha but for
Bollywood. Sinha hopes to complete the film by the end of next year. - (SAMPURN)
