Do you know how he became Badshah from Coolequal?; here's a back story from his own words!
It's a story from hopes and dreams to ways and means that today Badshah has shared with his fans by posting a throwback picture of 2005. He wrote the whole story of his journey from the day he took that photo in the small garage of his friend's house in Sector 7, Chandigarh.

He wrote, at that time his stage name was Coolequal and his friend's was XS. Together they were called `Northern Clique`. On that precise day, they were preparing for their opening slot before the main act on the star night of Pecfest 2005. That was a fifteen-minute slot that they fought for with the college music club and festival organizers.

He added that they were downloading rap instrumentals from the internet at kbps speeds. Putting their own lyrics down on them and practicing with empty Pepsi bottles in their hands as mics. And this they practice for hours while imagining the audience in front of them hoping and dreaming of climbing up on to bigger and larger stages. Screams and applause.

Badshah hasn't stopped here and continued telling that when they went to perform on the stage, they had mixed feelings of excitement and nervousness. Their rappers like appearances with loose denim that hangs around their waists. They had no DJ so we asked the guys backstage to play music in a particular order without possibly messing it up.

He added to his story that the beats began, and they began to bop with the beats and then one punchline, a few laughs, and the hall was full of applause, another punchline, and more woohoo sounds. And everyone was singing with them `WHO THEY WANT.. NORTHERN CLIQUE CLIQUE CLIQUE` and they tore the stage off and brought the house down. They cut their music and mics but as they were rebels so didn't need mics or music.

In the end, he wrote "Always a hustler. Never giving up.". This was the ultimate story that starts from this picture that he shared on Instagram. Check it out here -

From hopes and dreams to ways and means. From coolequal to badshah. This picture was taken in 2005 at shatrudaman's (my friend on the right) little garage at his house in sector 7 chandigarh. My stage name was coolequal and his was XS. Together we were called `Northern Clique`. On this particular day, we were preparing for our opening slot before the main act on the star night of pecfest 2005. It was a fifteen minute slot that we fought for with the college music club and festival organisers. 3 songs and thats it. We were downloading rap instrumentals from internet at kbps speeds. Putting our own lyrics down on to them and practicing with empty pepsi pet bottles in our hands as mics. For hours we used to practice, imagining a crowd in front of us hoping they would get our rhymes and punchlines, dreaming of climbing up on to bigger and larger stages. Screams and applause. Anyway we got on the stage, nervous yet excited with wired mics in our hands and oversized hoodies and baggy denims loosely hanging around our waists. We had no dj so we asked the guys backstage to play music in a particular order without possibly f*cking it up. And then the beats began, and then the intro and then the hook and then the heads began to bop with the beats and then one punchline, a little bit of laughs and applause and then another punchline, even more noise, another puncline, more wooooos. And then the hook and all those hands in the air, suddenly everyone was singing with us with their hands in the air. `WHO THEY WANT.. NORTHERN CLIQUE CLIQUE CLIQUE` 15 mins turned into 20 into 30. We tore the stage off and brought the house down. They cut our music and mics but we were rebeles, we didnt need mics or music, all we needed was our voice and an audience. We had it. They literally had to drag us off stage. Little did they know that our job was more than done. Little did they know that the greatest ever to do it had already graced the stage. Always a hustler. Never giving up.
