Matondkar joined the Indian National Congress on 27 March 2019. She contested from the Mumbai North constituency in the 2019 Lok Sabha Election but unfortunately was defeated by BJP's Gopal Shetty. On 10 September 2019, she resigned from the party, citing petty internal politics. On 1 December 2020, she joined Shiv Sena in presence of party president Uddhav Thackeray. Shiv Sena hoped to add a nationally-recognized face and voice, well conversant in Marathi, Hindi as well as English, to represent the party.
