Urmila Matondkar recently joined the Maharashtra ruling government, Shiv Sena, just after a month her name was suggested by the party for one of the 12 nominated seats in the Maharashtra Legislative Council. On Tuesday, the 46 years old actress joined the party in the presence of party president and Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray at his residence 'Matoshri' in Mumbai's Bandra area. A month back, the actress was in the news when she spoke against Kangana Ranaut who denoted Urmila with inappropriate words. Now, after joining the party, the actress is on seventh cloud and posted a resplendent picture of herself on social media.

Now, Urmila Matondkar shared a stunning picture of herself on Instagram and wrote, "Love sarees even if I don't wear them often 😊❤️ Thank you @label_vidhitaraut for this pretty one 💕 and @tdsbypurvashiraut for jewellery to complete the look 😍." Matondkar joined the Indian National Congress on 27 March 2019. She contested from the Mumbai North constituency in the 2019 Lok Sabha Election but unfortunately was defeated by BJP's Gopal Shetty. On 10 September 2019, she resigned from the party, citing petty internal politics. On 1 December 2020, she joined Shiv Sena in presence of party president Uddhav Thackeray. Shiv Sena hoped to add a nationally-recognized face and voice, well conversant in Marathi, Hindi as well as English, to represent the party.
