The pictures in question though can also be decribed as ‘disturbing'.
It is a black and white ‘crying' series from the photographer with a lot of drama. The series is allegedly inspired by Mukhtar Bi, a Pakistani woman from the village of Meerwala, who suffered a gang rape as a form of honour-revenge on the demands of tribesmen — or by some accounts, on the orders of a panchayat (tribal council) — of a local clan known as the Mastoi, a clan that was richer and more powerful than Mukhtaran's clan, the Tatla.
By custom, Pakistani women are expected to commit suicide after such an event. Instead, she took the settlement money provided her by the government following a court case, and opened a center for refuge and education, the Mukhtar Mai Women's Welfare Organisation. Konkona had been following Rafique's work unintentionally.
as she likes black and white photographs and most of the good B&W photographs she came across have been clicked by him therefore, she called photographer and expressed her desire to work with him. Rafique has also clicked Meghna Reddy.
When asked about her reaction at seeing the results of the photographs, she says she didn't find them disturbing at all, because she did those shot, but, if it would have been done by some other model, then probably it would have been disturbing for her.
Konkona on the other side never uses glycerin when she is required to cry for a scene. She can bring tears to her eyes, eventhough she realizes even bad actors can do that.
The best part of the shoot for her was that, she played a character rather than just modeling.
This is totally individualistic considering that most of the B-Town actresses they make it a point that they look pretty in each frame for a photo shoot
Says Konkona"I have a different definition for beautiful and pretty.Which is certainly not the conventional thought of smiling and looking pretty."
