Actor Chandan Roy Sanyal takes on a challenging role in the new series '36 Days', portraying the dark character Tony Walia. This role demanded him to channel deep-seated hatred, a task he found particularly daunting.

Exploring Societal Taboos in '36 Days'

'36 Days', a gripping series, delves into societal norms and the courage needed to confront and overcome them. The show's intricate characters and compelling storylines bring these themes to life, highlighting the struggles and resilience of individuals facing prejudice.

Tony Walia and Tara: A Story of Identity and Prejudice

One of the most compelling narratives in '36 Days' is the story of Tony Walia, played by Chandan Roy Sanyal, and Tara, portrayed by Sushant Divgikar. This storyline offers a poignant look at societal taboos surrounding identity and the prejudices faced by those who are different.

Chandan Roy Sanyal's Approach to His Role

Reflecting on his experience, Chandan shared the difficulty of embodying such a hateful character. He stated, "It was really difficult for me to bring out the emotion of disgust for Sushant Divgikar's on-screen character, Tara. It was Sushant's constant assurance that helped me push through-he reminded me that people outside are far worse than what Tony does to Tara.`

Personal Reflections on Familial Struggles

Chandan drew from personal experiences to understand his character better. He recounted his paternal uncle's struggles, who was ostracized by their family for being different. "My uncle was a victim because he was different. Back in the day, it was even more difficult, and my dad was his only support in the family," he revealed.

Emotional Impact of Playing Tony Walia

Chandan expressed the emotional impact of playing Tony, stating, `As kids, we only remembered the love and affection he showered on us during the holidays. Now, looking back and having portrayed a character who harbours so much hatred for the third gender, I realised the immense struggles he must have faced daily. I truly hope Tony's character pierces people's hearts and makes them hate him, but also realise the importance of treating everyone equally.`

'36 Days': An Adaptation of '35 Diwrnod'

Directed by Vishal Furia, '36 Days' is an official Indian adaptation of the Welsh drama '35 Diwrnod'. The series features a stellar cast, including Neha Sharma, Amruta Khanvilkar, Shruti Seth, and Sharib Hashmi. Set in a serene suburban housing estate in Goa, the thriller unravels a complex web of lies, deceit, romance, and intrigue as a mysterious woman enters the scene and disrupts the neighbourhood.

Streaming on Sony LIV

'36 Days' is now available for streaming on Sony LIV, offering viewers a thought-provoking narrative that challenges societal norms and underscores the importance of acceptance and understanding.
