The delay was prompted by a petition filed in the NIA court by an individual involved in the Malegaon Blast case. The petitioner expressed concerns that the film might impact public perceptions of his ongoing trial. However, the filmmakers have denied any connection between the film and the Malegaon case.
Producer Pallavi Gurjar clarified in a statement, "This film isn't about the Malegaon case. It's a broader look at a series of attacks in the early 2000s and the potential political dynamics shaping public perception. We respect the judicial process and have taken care to ensure that this film does not interfere with the Malegaon case currently before the court.'
The storyline of Match Fixing draws inspiration from the book The Game Behind Saffron Terror, authored by retired Colonel Kanwar Khatana and published in 2020. The book delves into a narrative of alleged political conspiracies and explores the involvement of intelligence agencies from India and Pakistan, providing a thought-provoking backdrop for the film.
Director Kedaar Gaekwad shared insights on the challenges of bringing the film to life, stating, 'Ideating and executing this project has been very challenging for our team. We have approached the subject with both responsibility and sensitivity without taking unnecessary creative liberties.'
Kedaar added that the film aims to offer a fresh perspective on the narrative surrounding terrorism in India, tracing a series of events that ultimately led to the tragic 26/11 terror attacks, one of the most devastating terror incidents in recent history.
Apart from Vineet Kumar Singh, the film features Anuja Sathe and Manoj Joshi in pivotal roles. The film is produced by Pallavi Gurjar under the banner of Artarena Creations Private Limited.
With a revised release date of January 17, 2025, Match Fixing is expected to bring a gripping and intense narrative to the big screen, exploring themes of political intrigue, cross-border espionage, and the complexities of public perception. Fans and moviegoers can now mark their calendars for this action-packed thriller's premiere early next year.
