Says Sanjay Gupta, "Apoorva Lakhia's cabin has been cleared and Meghna Gulzar has moved into her cabin."
Says Gupta, "I was reading a book called Land Of The 5 Rivers by Khushwant Singh. That's where I saw this short story by Kartar Singh Duggal. When we approached him to buy the rights he suggested we film the novel based on the short story. But I preferred the short story format. It's a very poignant story and would lose it flavour in expansion."
The story was initially to star Vidya Balan as the daughter. But Vidya couldn't spare the dates.
The film will be shot from 10 June in Chandigarh...a hot spot for our filmwallas after Vipul Shah and Anil Sharma shot Namaste London and Apne in the city.
"The story is set in Chandigarh and we wanted to shoot it there," explains Gupta.
Gupta is delighted by Meghna and his two actresses. "You know I'm a diehard fan of Gulzar Saab. In my car you'll find CDs of every song he has ever written. Meghna is a complete chip off the old block. And she's doing two films for us.
As for Amrita, she's stunning in Shootout...And to think Apoorva wanted Supriya Pathak in that role! Amrita'll blow the screen apart in Meghna Gulzar's film...We've just recorded two songs. Shafqat from Pakistan has sung for Meghna. He's an incredible discovery."
