Amrita shot for Nilesh Malhotra's suspense thriller "Monopoly- The Game of Money" in Canada. She tells us about the characters she plays in her forthcoming films, and her dream role being that played by Saira Bano in "Padosan".
Q: Tell us about your forthcoming film "Monopoly - The Game of Money".
A: As the name of the film suggests, the storyline revolves around money. It is a suspense thriller about Internet hacking and software scams and I am playing the lead. I can't tell you anything more than this.
Q: How was the experience of working with Zeenat Aman in the movie?
A: It was a dream-come-true. I am big fan of Zeenatji and to share the screen with her was an honour.
Q: The film has more heroines than heroes, why so?
A: (Chuckles) Yes, the film has more women on the cast. One thing is for sure, the audience will get to see female bonding in this film, which is usually not there in Hindi movies.
Q: What is your role in "Speed"?
A: The name of my character in this Vikram Bhatt-film is Riya. A bubbly and lovable girl, she gets into trouble because of her talkativeness. The character is quite comic.
Q: "Rama Rama" is another comedy after "Awaara Pagal Deewana"...
A: Yes, the character I am playing is named Khushi. She feels that her husband doesn't love her and she keeps doing dramas in a bid to show off to outsiders how much he loves her. It is an all-out comedy film, but now I am interested in doing Priyadarshan-type comedies.
Q: What is the reason behind changing the title of the movie from "Kuch Love Kuch Drama" to "Rama Rama"?
A: It would be better if you ask the director or the producer about this. They are the right people to answer this question.
Q: Tell us about "Hello", which is based on the novel "One Night at a Call Centre?
A: My character in "Hello" is quite complex and confused. She finds it difficult to adjust to the family she gets married into and hence undergoes a change.
Q: In your forthcoming film "Deh", you will be seen with Dino Morea. What's its basic plot?
A: In this movie, I get married to a man double my age. He is drawn to me not because of love but because of my beauty and glamour. But post-marriage we get into squabbles everyday. He feels very insecure about me and so objects to most things I do.
Q: Don't you think that your characters in "Hello" and "Deh" are quite similar?
A: No, I don't feel so. In "Hello", I am trying to adjust in my husband's family, but in "Deh" I refuse to change in accordance to spouse's sweet will.
Q: Most of your films are multi-starrers. How much reel time are you able to grab in them?
A: I am able to corner a fair share of reel time. I always look into the character before signing a film.
Q: Before joining films you were a video jockey (VJ). How different are the two professions?
A: There is quite some difference between the two. As a VJ, I could afford to be just myself. But as an actress, I have to play different characters, which at times are very unlike me.
Q: You are a big fan of Saira Bano. If given a chance to work in a remake of her film, which movie would you choose?
A: "Padosan" would be the one I would like to work in. It's my favourite film. I think I can do justice to the role played by Sairaji simply because the character is similar to the real me. -Rajnee Gupta
