It has been a small victory for petitioners WSG Pictures and Bhavna Talwar in the case against Film Federation of India (FFI) and Vidhu Vinod Chopra for the latter's process
of selection of India's entry to the Oscars.
Chief Justice Shri Swatanter Kumar and Justice Dr. D.Y. Chandrachud of the High Court of Judicature at Bombay, today
directed respondents FFI to set their house in order.
The court asked them to formulate a bias-free process for selection of India's entry to the Oscars before the
next hearing. The FFI also require share the process of selection that they formulate with Bhavna Talwar's senior counsel before presenting it in the court.
Satisfied with the court's order, Bhavna Talwar, director of "Dharm", said: "We filed this petition to ensure a fair and unbiased selection procedure in selecting India's entry to
the Oscars.
We are glad that the court has recognized the faulty selection procedure and has set in motion a process to ensure that only the best movie from India
is sent for the Oscars.
A jury open to external forces and biases will only damage India's chances of eventually winning the golden statuette. We look forward to
the FFI setting this procedure in place."
