"I needed a set depicting the house in Alibaug where I was supposed to shoot. I asked Bijon to erect the set in Madh Island. In his own way, Bijon did a fantastic job. But it wasn't what I had in mind."
Last-minute panic!....Disruption seemed to be around the corner.
"Fortunately I had been house-shopping for myself for the past few weeks because I had bought myself a dream villa in Goa. It was the ideal home that I had been looking for in Goa for years. When I saw it I knew I wanted it."
Sanjay decided to re-vamp Bijon's sets using furniture, artifacts and knick –knacks meant for his Goan house.
"That was only part of the Operation Makeover. A majority of my stuff from my bungalow in Mumbai ( Woodstock) has also been carted to the set.
With the result that my place of residence looks pretty bare right now whereas my place of work resembles my home. Since Alibaug is a very personalized film, I don't mind."
On an even more personal note, Sanjay Gupta confirms that Sanjay Dutt joins the Alibaug team in the next schedule.
"He was never meant to be part of the current schedule. So people can speculate as much they like. We know the truth about our friendship. Sanju's decision to launch his own production house was never a shock to me."
Rumour has it that Dutt has already invited Gupta to direct a film for the Dutts.
Shrugs Gupta, "Right now I won't like to say anything more, except for the fact that all the speculation is thoroughly uncalled-for.Sanju and I are too close to be swayed by trouble-makers
. Also, I think I shouldn't have opened my mouth about Apoorva Lakhia. Whatever the truth we should've sorted it out between ourselves. The trouble is, I think with my heart rather than head."
