Preet Mangat started his career in the entertainment industry as an assistant director. Later under his stewardship as an executive producer, Sky TV produced two of the biggest Punjabi serials during the period 1999 -2002.

Recently Preet Mangat launched his first self titled music album. We caught up with him during the launch program and during the tête-à-tête, Preet Managat talked bout his album, future plans etc.

Q: Why did it take 18 months to make this album?
A: The entire album demanded a lot of traveling because of the kind of art work I wanted to put into it. Also the recording, re-recording, shooting was again done at various places such as Vancouver, Canada, Mumbai, and Punjab. So that took a lot of time.

Q: Tell us about the album.
A: There are nine tracks in this album which focuses on R&B and hip-hop music. The album has Bhangra tracks as well. Tracks like ‘Nasha' is a Hindi-Urdu track while ‘Guroor' is a reggae Punjabi track.

Q: You shot this album in various parts of the world, why was this needed?
A: Actually I wanted to give originality to the songs so that people across the globe can relate to it. Indian audiences are there across the globe but their tastes vary a lot.

For example in India people listen to something, while in Canada people listen to something else. To cater to everyone, I personally decided to make my album such that every Indian across the world can relate to it.

Q: Personally what kind of music do you like?
A: My taste varies from old Hindi music to R&B and hip-hop music.

Q: Which is your favorite song of you album?
A: The ‘Nasha' and ‘Peeng' tracks are my favorites from this album.

Q: What is the most unique feature of this album?
A: The special thing about this album is that it is a youth oriented album. I have made this album keeping the interests of the youth of today in mind. I hope they like it.

Q: This album is written, composed, produced and performed solely by you. Wasn't it a tough job?
A: Of course, it was crazy doing everything. But I enjoyed every bit of hard work that I put in. I hope people appreciate my hard work.

Q: What are your expectations from this album?
A: I wish that the youth for whom I have made this album accept me. Then I will be charged up for my next album which is expected to be released later this year.

Q: With film songs becoming hits amongst people, don't you think that you will have a tough time in attracting an audience?
A: That can be the case nationally, but not in Punjab and other parts of northern India. Also in abroad it's a totally different scenario. In Canada, people don't listen to film music, but they listen to more of hip-hop and Punjabi tracks. Abroad, filmy music is not such a hit. So it can be said that I have no competition at all.

Q: What is your next aim?
A: My next album is scheduled for a September 2008 release. It will have at least four Hindi tracks and there will be the influence of Urdu and Hindi lyrics.

Q: Would you like to say anything to the audience?
A: I wish that people like my piece of art and appreciate a newcomer in this industry. I have made this album especially for the youth and so I want them to enjoy this.
