Stars are snooty creatures who do not normally come down to earth. Nandita Das is a star all right, but she belongs to a rare breed.

Last week, she queued up at a movie hall for Bend It Like Beckham tickets. The man at the counter couldn`t suppress his excitement and called in the manager. The twosome wondered why a well-known actress should bother to stand in a queue. Nandita didn`t budge: "Why should I enjoy special privileges just because I am known?"

The aam janta was mighty pleased with the lady`s no-nonsense stance. Unfortunately, there aren`t too many takers in Bollywood for her un-starry attitude.
