Actor-turned-MP Dharmendra today attributed his huge acclaim as a favourite 'He-Man' of Bollywood to the fresh air and unadulterated milk and ghee he partook of during his childhood days in a village in Punjab.
''Having been brought up in a farmer's family, I have had the opportunity to partake of things like pure ghee and milk to the fullest. When I was a child, my father, a farmer in Punjab, made sure I had a glass of pure milk every day and lot of butter.
Today, what I have achieved is largely because of consumption of these things, which serve as 'amrit' to the Human soul,''Dharmendra said at a function in the capital, where he introduced himself as a brand ambassador of pure Ghee brand.
HMS Agro Proteins Pvt Ltd, a recently launched company established to launch a series of dairy products in India, has roped in the film star as the brand ambassador of its Desi Ghee brand called 'Sambandh Pure Desi Ghee'.
''A few days ago, S K Khandelwal, the Chairman and the Managing director of the company, came to me and said he intended to launch a unit for the production of pure ghee on a large scale. He wanted me to become a brand ambassador of the brand, the actor informed.
I instantly agreed as I felt that it was a noble endeavour to bring to the future generation pure milk and ghee products, which has, over the last few decades, become a rarity, Dharmendra said.
But the veteran star made a hasty retreat from the venue due to huge mob of mediapersons and 'star struck Delhiites' .
What was, however, worse, Dharmendra had to leave the Le Meridien hotel, where the function was held in an autorickshaw when organisers failed to get the actor a car.
However, while adderessing the gathering just before being mobbed, the actor was his charming self, even relating a couple of couplets about his experience as an actor and giving a word of advise or two to the youngsters about the need to consume pure milk, ghee and butter as key to good health.
