Q. You are in Drona and Sab Khairiyat Hai. What are the two films all about?
A. Both the films are totally different from each other. Drona is about a super hero played by Abhishek Bachchan. Sab Khairiyat Hai is more of a thriller-ish film and it flows back and forth of time.
Technology plays a big part in it which shows how television has changed our lives. It has been made by Vikram Kumar who has earlier assisted Priyadarshan.
Q. What characters do you play in both the films?
A. My character in Drona is of a person who knows about the powers of the super hero. I have a small but significant role in Drona while in Sab Khairiyat Hai it's a full fledged role.
Q. How was Drona offered to you and how did Sab Khiriyat Hai happen?
A. I knew Goldie Behl previously and worked with him in some television programs. We share a very good working relationship and are good friends also, and it was P.C. Sriram, the cameraperson of Cheeni Kum, who suggested my name for Sab Khairiyat Hai.
Q. Your expectations...
A. Both are very interesting and different films and I hope they get good response from people. The technical crews of the films are good. Sab Khairiyat Hai is been produced by Adlabs and directed by Vikram who is very young and energetic guy.
The same goes with Goldie who is very wonderful person to work with. He has a very professional crew to support his views.
Q. How was it working with Goldie Behl and Vikram Kumar?
A. I enjoyed working with both of them because both are very professional. Goldie is a relaxed person and Vikram is very energetic person to work with.
In terms of work, they are very clear in their thought. Both of them come with their complete home work and at the same time are open to suggestions from all.
Q. How different is it working in television and films?
A. For me film is like a picnic where the pace is much more leisurely. In television you sometimes have to do eight to ten scenes a day whereas in film it's maximum two to three scenes.
When the camera is on me I try to do my best, but obviously the canvas and the scale of working is different in television and films. I do a lot of stage also, so it is always a wonderful thing to shift gear from television to films and then to stage and I like these challenges.
Q. Do you also have some superpowers in Drona?
A. No, I don't have any superpower in it but I am the person who knows about the secrets of Abhishek's character.
Q. How was it working with Abhishek Bachchan?
A. I didn't have any actual scenes with him though we were there together while shooting.
Q. What kind of roles does excite you most?
A. I think the roles that push my limits as an actor. I mean, what really excites me is to be part of the storytelling experience and that if my role challenges me as an actor is a kind of things that excites me.
Q. On the scale of 10 how do you rate yourself as an actor?
A. (Laughs) I have a long way to go. I mean I concern myself as a committed actor, an actor who is able to deliver what the director wants from him. As per rating myself, I would like to say I am an average actor and I would give myself 5 or 6 out of 10.
Q. Your other projects...
A. Besides doing these two films, I am busy doing the television serial Woh Rehnewali Mahalon Ki on Sahara One. Apart from all these, I have not signed anything new till date. - Sabir Rahman
