Enlighten Film Company and Vivek Agnihotri Creates have taken the permission of the right holders of the original play '12 Angry Men' by Reginald Rose, to make it into a film. This will be the first legally adapted international stage play in India and also give credit to the legendary original playwright – Reginald Rose.
The film will be directed by Vivek Agnihotri (of Chocolate and Goal fame), who is also producing the film along with Enlighten Film Company.
The play was first screened on television and then made as a film by the great filmmaker Sidney Lumet.
"12 Angry Men" was Sidney Lumet's first film which starred Henry Fonda and is one of the top 10 films of all time. The film revolves around 12 jurors who have to decide whether the 18 year old boy is 'guilty' or 'not guilty' of murdering his father.
Says Vivek Agnihotri, "I've wanted to make adapt this play for a long time. This subject requires a certain responsibility and I wasn't sure if I was ready. But recent incidents such as the maharashtra-northern divide and other prejudices affected me deeply.
And I thought its time that this subject must be made as it deals with the biases in democracy. But reasoning prevails. My take is that Prejudice prevails because good men don't reason. It's not just a film project anymore, it's my way of protesting."
Vivek Agnihotri's "12" will be his version of the Hollywood Classic. He is currently in the process of signing great actors such as Amitabh Bachchan, Ajay Devgan, Victor Bannerjee, Om Puri, etc for the film.
