He has arrayed his experience almost in every craft of entertainment, whether it is in acting, hosting, singing and even judging. We caught up with this dude for a free wheeling interview on his journey in the entertainment industry and the latest hook, Comedy Circus.
Your take on Comedy Circus?
It's a unique format which combines TV actors with stand up artists. And the best part is that some of these actors are not known for their comic timing.
What is your yard stick in judging Commedy Circus?
There is no hard and fast rule for humor. It just has to click. The most important thing is that you should not lose the attention of your audience.
There is allegation that TV actors get a better mileage than their stand up partners.
That's wrong, it swings both ways.
Why did you quit Laugher Challenge?
It was getting repetitive. I felt we should not have gone beyond season 2. The talent in the country had already been tested. The most important part is to realize when to call its quits.
People say Siddhu laughs too much...
This has been said before. The best part of our jodi was that we were as different as chalk and cheese. He would always laugh a lot, but that's his character, while I would reserve my emotions for something very good. Anyways, one Bihari is replaced by one more.
Did you quit on your own?
It was a mutual decision.
But people says that you joined Comedy Circus to pay back?
I am not a spiteful person, I don't believe in harbouring negative energies.
What about your filmy career?
During my long filmy inning I have made many mistakes and have finally learnt to say no. Most of my films, I would have to admit, were avoidable. I would only like to remember Utsaav and Tridev. Currently I have two films under my sleeve, one is a offbeat which I can't talk about.
You have disappeared from TV fiction as well?
I can't work round the clock, plus age 200 years in a matter of months. My last outing was Main, it was good project.
If something similar comes along, why not! One of the reasons for doing TV earlier (Reporter and Dekh and Bhai Dekh) was that I needed to prove myself.
As a senior industry person, is it not your responsibility to take up the batton for change?
To change the system you have to be a part of same. And I don't want to get involved in the rat race.
Now that you have judged a reality show, would you take part in one more after Jjhoom?
Why not, I have no ego issues. The reason for doing Jjhoom was that it involved singing which I love.
But people have questioned your singing ability...
Yes. That's because I have yet to prove myself. My second album is in the process. As for play back, since I am producing my own films, I might sing in them as well.
What got you to build your body at 40?
I just want to remain fit. If you don't take care of your body, it appears that you have given up on life. I would advice everyone to work out. Health is life.
At one time you were known as super star of the small screen.
I don't believe in tags. Having said that at least I am still around, while others have come and gone. Take Rajesh Khanna, for example, at one time he was Bollywood king, where is he now?
Your journey in the entertainment industry?
It's been a long but happy one. I am quite happy that I am not surrounded by sycophants who just go on praising. My family is one of my biggest critics and they help to keep me grounded.
