That hasn`t helped him in Bollywood though. In fact, his English speaking background has always been a major hurdle in his communication with most producers from Mumbai. It is only "the new breed of directors of the `with it` variety" he vibes well with.

Just the other day, a producer-director duo was shocked out of their pants when they saw their lead actor walk in on the sets in `faded, torn and worn out pair of jeans` for a shot that had to be canned, and that too, sans make up. The bewildered director is supposed to have screamed at the debonair actor and thrown a fit over his nonchalance. But the thick-skinned Rampal had a dead pan expression (one that he always wears) when he uttered, "So what? Do college guys wear a tuxedo to the university in our country- this is how most guys I hung out with at The Hindu, looked like," he explained.
