Ghazal genius Jagjit Singh and poet Gulzar are friends bonded by their passion for poetry and music. In the late `80s, Jagjit Singh composed a soulful score for Gulzar`s tele-serial Mirza Galib. Later the two wizards came together with a private album Marasim, which won cross -generational and cross-continental popularity.
And now, Somnath Sen`s shortly-to-be-released film Leela has generated interest not just for its fusion of Hollywood expertise with Bolllywood soul, but also for its low-hyped but off-beat sound track.
The film traces the conflicts of a poet (Vinod Khanna) and his wife (Dimple Kapadia), and the latter`s involvement with a young student (Amol Mhatre). The track, which has been primarily sung by Jagjit Singh, also has a rustic number sung by Shobha Mudgul and a traditional track by Jaspinder Narula.
