In short where the actors have failed (still no mainstream actors from B-Town in Hollywood), the directors have succeeded.
Mira Nair is now wrapping up a bio-pic on American aviation pioneer, Amelia Earhart. It's titled 'Amelia' and has Oscar winner Hillary Swank in the lead.
Mira calls her a fantastic actress who has an uncanny resemblance to the original character, Amelia Earhart who was the first woman to receive the Distinguished Flying Cross for flying solo across the Atlantic Ocean. This lady set many other records wrote best-selling books about her flying experiences, and was instrumental in the formation of The Ninety-Nines, an organization for female pilots. However during an attempt to make a circumnavigational flight of the globe in 1937, Earhart disappeared over the central Pacific Ocean near Howland Island.
Apart from this distinguished project, Mira has also finished 'Kosher Vegetarian', a 6-minute film on love starring Natalie Portman and Irrfan Khan.
It is part of a series on love called 'New York I Love You' and according to Mira, Irrfan and Natalie have created magic on screen!
The director who has earlier made movies like 'Mississipi Masala', 'Hysterical Blindness' and 'Vanity Fair' with A- list stars like Denzel Washington, Uma Thurman and Reese Whiterspoon is however upset that the ambitious 'Shantaram' with Amitabh Bachchan and Johnny Depp didn't take off.
In spite of that, there sure are plenty of reasons for Mira to rejoice!
