Not too many people are aware of Urmila Matondkar's skills at mimcry. Her takeoffs on singers from Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle to some of the pesentday names have dinner guests at the Matondkars regaled
for hours.
For the first time Urmila's penchant for mimicry comes out into the open when on Star tv's music contest Voice Of India she does a takeoff on Asha Bhosle, a singer Urmila adores.
In fact the two sang a duet 'Mehbooba Dilruba' for the album Asha & Friends.
Says Urmila, "I was on Voice Of India for the promotion of my new film EMI It was the behrupiya (disguise) special. They dragged me to the stage and suddenly asked me to do my own little impersonation.
I
chose Ashaji's Bhanwara badaa nadaan since I'm a huge fan of hers. I also sang Uma Devi's Afsana likh rahi hoon. It was all in fun. And yes, I do like to mimic and sing, though this is the first time I got a chance to
both together."
Any plans of recording her own album?
"Not for now at least," laughs Urmila. "I leave the singing to the professionals. Let me concentrate on acting. Ashaji has sung some of my career's best songs in Rangeela and Daud. It was fun singing her song."
The episode gets aired on Friday.
