There are stars and then there are stars, but there is only one Amitabh Bachchan. At a time when the focus in Hindi cinema has shifted to more than a dozen super duper stars, the popularity of the star of the millennium remains unchanged, as the incident proved two days ago at the Bachchan residence.
An 18-year-old die-hard Bachchan fan from Bihar, who swears by Bachchan and is part of the mania that surrounds the superstar, took the first available train to Mumbai from his hometown when all attempts at establishing communication with his favourite star failed. He tried writing letters, called him personally and even got friends who could be of help to him to reach the city of his dreams. And, finally when he did manage to set his sights on the palatial bungalow that the star owns, he was in for a shock – the residence of the mega-star looked more like a fortress than a star home with guards on a round-the-clock vigil. Determined as he was, he sneaked onto the divider and jumped across the long winding wall, well past midnight before scaling the parapet despite a barbed wire running through it. But ill luck awaited him in the shape of six hunky security guards who scared the daylights out of him before handing him over to the police. His crime? He dared to have a glimpse of his hero. After questioning and a round of interrogation, he was let off, but not before a warning that if he ever attempts to be adventurous again, he wouldn't be spared.
The guy of course isn't complaining since it was none other than his idol Mr. Bachchan himself at the police station who dropped by to have a dekko of his fan. And boy, was he thrilled? His joy knew no bounds as the superstar put his hand around his shoulder to know his state of being. At last count, the boy must have touched his head and the ground as a mark of gratitude to God for the long-awaited favour. Well, there are fans and there are fans. But few could be as crazed as the ones who worship the Big B! Right Shahrukh?
