Karan Johar produced Dostana has taken a good 80 percent opening at all the major Indian cities' multiplexes but the collections in single screens are very poor. The other release, Vinay Pathak's Dasvidaniya has opened to a very poor 15-20 percent but may pick up at select multiplexes thanks to some good reviews.

With good collections in multiplexes but very bad in single cinemas, Dostana's average opening collections all over India stand at 65-70 percent. It has more to do with the theme of the film which is very urban centric.

The masses have rejected the gay angle as its still a taboo in the Indian society. But the city audience especially the youngsters are enjoying the film and they are forming the major audience of this romantic comedy with a hatke twist.

Dostana was being touted to be a bigger blockbuster than Golmaal Returns but it doesn't seem so as of now. Golmaal Returns was loved by both the masses and the city audiences.

Fashion's collections have started falling down drastically where as EMI has already been booted out of the box office race in it's first week run only.
