Naseeruddin Shah is slated to play The Prophet on stage, based on the poet philosopher Khalil Gibran`s classic of the same name. Shah, who is regarded as one of the most versatile and esteemed actors in the country, is not tight lipped about the whole project though.
The credit for such a novel theme must be given to poet lyricist director Gulzar who directed Shah in the popular teleserial Mirza Ghalib some years ago and ever since then most of their fans who wanted the combination to weave magic again have suggested a unique concept of staging Gibran`s works with Shah in the lead. What also triggered off the whole project was another film, which is making waves - Hollywood production, League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen, opposite the original James Bond, Sean Connery in which Naseer plays Captain Nemo to Connery`s Quartermaine.
Time to move on for a volcano of talent to greener pastures. With lesser talent hogging international fame - thanks to their dogged perseverance at promoting their films at Cannes or even at the Oscars, how long can we ignore what one can proudly claim to be truly world class potential? No offence meant to Bhansali or his predictable actor who has the "five best known facial expressions," by his own admission.
