He's lost his sister and brother-in-law in the recent Mumbai terrorist attacks.
His sister Monica Chhabria and her husband Ajit had been dining at the 5-star Tiffin restaurant on that fateful Wednesday evening when the terrorists stormed in and started firing upon them and fellow guests.
The grief stricken Aashish reveals, "My father got very worried and immediately called on her mobile. She took the call and told my father in a quivering voice that there were terrorists inside the hotel who were firing at people.
After that the call got disconnected. We were totally confused about what to do next and whom to talk to. We rushed to the Oberoi."
After that Aashish says he continued to try calling his sister's cell phone but without any response. The whole family tried telling themselves that both Monica and Ajit were safe. Ashish's family waited outside the Oberoi hotel for over 40 hours, still hoping against hope that Monica and her husband would be alive and well.
The actor has added tearfully, "Till the last hostage was brought out by the security forces, the whole family was hopeful that they were alive and well. But that didn't happen. It's shocking, really shocking. I still can't believe that my dear sister and brother-in-law are now no more. I am completely shattered."
When the NSG stormed the hotel and brought out survivors, Monica and Ajit were not found amongst them. It was then that Ashish and his family came to know that Monica and Ajit had been killed.
The buzz is that Riya Sen and Celina Jaitley are standing by Aashish and he has received numerous messages of support and sympathy from the film fraternity. Many from the industry attended the funerals as well.
We just hope that the lively actor manages to cope up with the tragedy.
