"KAL HO NA HO was loved by the audience; SALAAM-E-ISHQ was not. The reason could have been length of whatever but at the end of the day, it was endorsed by the audience.
For me the success of CHANDNI CHOWK TO CHINA would lie in whether audiences like it or not. Now whether in the process of doing that it creates new records or fall short of it isn't something that I am breaking my head over for", says Nikhil Advani as he lands in India after a super successful global premier tour.
At one point of time (read around two months back), it seemed that CHANDNI CHOWK TO CHINA would break the record of all existing movies since Akshay's own SINGH IS KINNG was holding the record for the best opening weekend ever.
Shah Rukh Khan's RAB NE BANA DI JODI came close but soon after GHAJINI came as a hurricane and swept away all the records. Doesn't it scare Nikhil that pressure is on CHANDNI CHOWK TO CHINA to outperform the opening?
"As I said, I just hope that audience which is paying money gets what they want. I wish they go to watch the film over and over again.
Talking of collections, I guess I am not really the right person to comment on it. It is a numbers game so ask the producers about it. I am sure they will have a different answer around estimated collections", laughs Nikhil.
"There are so many factors like print count, paid previews, holidays embedded into your first week etc. etc. Let the film open and talk it about it next Friday again.
For me, the most important thing is that CHANDNI CHOWK TO CHINA is not just a comedy but an emotional film as well. It would surprise quite a few out there who have missed Akshay in an emotional role for quite some time now.
CHANDNI CHOWK TO CHINA would bring back that facet of his personality once again", signs off Nikhil.
