Shilpa along with London-based partner Raj Kundra bought 12 % stake in the team owned by Emerging Media. They together invested $15.4 million in Rajasthan Royals.
Shilpa called it a strategic business investment and said: "I completely relate to Rajasthan Royals. My story is similar to the team's journey to the top. It is an honour to be a part of Rajasthan Royals."
The team's success story last year was an inspiration for me. That's why I am investing in this team," Kundra said.
During the first season of the IPL, Shilpa Shetty was seen cheering for Vijay Mallya's Bangalore Royal Challengers. However, the actor will now be seen backing the champion side in the second season.
The Rajasthan Royals won the championship in the first season of the IPL, but lacked the off-field flair as compared to the other sides like SRK's Knight Riders or Vijay Mallya's Royal Challengers.
