Call it the unlikely event, it`s Hollywood`s turn to get the insiration from the Bollywood. The film? Aankhen. Director Vipul Shah's thriller about three blind men robbing a bank seems all set to become a phoren blockbuster starring a handful of Hollywood heavyweights. ‘‘This is great news,'' says Amitabh Bachchan, who was the star attraction in Aankhen as the former bank manager who recruits Akshay Kumar, Arjun Rampal and Paresh Rawal to rob a bank.
‘‘It is a rare recognition for our film industry.'' Bachchan has his own casting wish-list as to who should play his role in the Hollywood version: ‘‘Al Pacino or Robert De Niro.'' Akshay Kumar is equally excited at the prospect of Aankhen becoming a Hollywood film. ‘‘What is amazing is that it all started as a Gujarati play, which became a Hindi film.''
Recalls Vipul Shah, ‘‘I got a call from Ranjeet Raina from Canada three months ago. He represented a film company which wanted to remake Aankhen into a Hollywood film. But I didn't take him seriously at first.'' But the calls persisted over a period of time. ‘‘Then there was a round of e-mail messages and the usual paperwork. We have given them the original script of Aankhen and they have sought 12 months to develop it into an English film. Subsequently, they will approach the studios for approval. While there are talks of casting Robert De Niro in Bachchan's role, the movie has been titled Three Blind Mice.''
