Preity Zinta has been nominated as the best lead actress in Deepa Mehta's Heaven On Earth in the Genie Awards.

The dimpled actress is on a high and seems pretty excited the way her career is going now. The Genie Awards are usually for Canadian films.

But Deepa Mehta being a Canadian has been a contender with the award. The film has also been nominated for best original screenplay. Preity is certainly looking forward to the awards ceremony which will take place on April 4th.

This is not the first time that the actress has received an award for this film. Earlier Preity had received the Silver Hugo Award for best actress in the Feature Film Competition section at the 44th Chicago International Film Festival.

The actress reveals that Heaven On Earth has been a complete new experience for her.

"The film broke my heart. It is the story of a real woman. My perception towards life and women has changed completely after doing this film. My respect for the woman fraternity has grown ten fold. Often we ignore such issues but not any more.

I met so many women who have been victims of domestic violence and it hurts terribly how do women bear so much. I was completely shattered. It took me some time to come out of it" reveals Preity.

"I realized that domestic violence is such a huge universal problem only after doing the film. I was traumatized when I was shooting of the film. I thought such things are a fragment of someone's imagination. It was the most humiliating experience of my life. I hope the government makes the film tax free" she concludes.
