Everyone of us was waiting with bated breath for Karisma and Abhishek to get married, but the worst has struck and the most romantic couple has fallen apart too. Family egos, reportedly, took their toll on the youngsters.

Karisma`s parents, Babita and Randhir Kapoor have been estranged since years. The mother, who claims to have monitored the career of her daughters, Karisma and Kareena, single-handedly, was consequently shunned by the Kapoor khandaan. It must be noted that at the release of Ritu Nanda`s compilation, Raj Kapoor Speaks, elder bahu Babita and her star daughters were conspicuous by their absence.

So this time round, to get even with her erring husband, Babita reportedly insisted on a register marriage between Abhishek and Karisma, a procedure which would do away with the ritual of kanyadan (a Hindu rite at the nuptial, whereby a father gives away his daughter to the groom). The hurting wife, Babita, wished to vindicate herself by denying Randhir this honour.

The Bachchans were against this vendetta as not only is Randhir an old friend but they are also related to the Kapoors, their daughter Shweta being married to Nikhil Nanda, son of Raj Kapoor`s elder daughter Ritu. And where has all this family intrigue and differences left Lolo (Karisma`s pet name) and Abhishek? Simply sad and solo!
