He's next putting finishing touches to a collection of short stories. "That's taken more time than I thought."
Though a screenwriter it comes as news to know Neeraj is a litterateur. "I've been writing these stories for a while. Some of them were written before A Wednesday, and some after. But they all show the romantic side of me, something that people haven't seen in my film. One or two do touch on terrorism. "
The stories are in English. "Writing for a book is a different discipline from writing screenplay."
Meanwhile UTV has sold the rights of Neeraj's A Wednesday to Kamal Haasan for a Tamil film. "It can't be helped, " says Neeraj.
"The legal aspect of it is too complicated. I do have a stake in the commerce of the remake, but not the creativity. I can't stop Wednesday from being remade in any language. At least it's gone into good hands." The Tamil version already has one patron.
Says Neeraj, "I'd love to see what Kamal Haasan does with A Wednesday. I read Naseeruddin Shah's comments wondering if Kamal Haasan would be playing more than one role.I'd love to see what Kamal Haasan does with Wednesday. In any case I think it's time for us to move on from A Wednesday.I'm working on another movie idea."
